Watching Aussie Gold Hunters and trying not to laugh. One of the hunters has been joined by his daughter. What makes it childishly funny for me is trhe Aussies called the outback, the bush.
So the father is talking fondly of his daughter and her love of the bush (ye’, I’m a child) and I’m sitting here smiling away.
Also Victoria, the southern most area of New South Wales, Australia.
To most of the world, seeing and hearing reports from the police in Victoria is serious.
But here’s what many Brits think about when they hear about Victorian police.

I know I should be more somber, due to the fires. Those are very tragic my heart goes out to the people, flora and fauna of Australia .
However, in a fit of mirth, I see those uniforms and my mind sees this...
I apologize for my reptilian brain. Please carry on.

South African’s also call it the bush. I in fact was quite fond of playing in the bush with my mates growing up.

is that standard equipment for patrol officers down there? I thought police in the US were a bit over-militarized, that looks almost the same.

I believe it is. Has been the trend across the West... I think Victoria took a different view of matters with a siege situation down there a few years back.

At least they’re recognizable as police officers. A few months ago, the county SWAT team showed up on my street to do an early morning drug bust, complete with armored car and cops dressed in green with body armor and helmets. I took some pictures, then showed them to my son later that day. I said. “They did a drug bust this morning down the street.” My son said, “Who did, the army?”

Speaking of Australia, I spotted this sign at my boys’ middle school yesterday.
I guess we should give them credit for knowing there’s an I in there somewhere.

Which is “kaks-teist kuud”.
But sounds lie,

The top picture is new uniform or soon to be new uniform.
Generally Australia is similar to U.K. police with the addition of a side arm. The side isn’t (as of at least quite recently) standard issue to carry and they may choose to leave it in the car locked up. But stab vests or bullet proof vests are quite common. L ike the U.K. They have different units, with some crossover .
General foot patrol.
Armed patrol
Armed response
Anti terror
Roads policing units

I can see how they got it wrong, Aust-rail-a instead of Aus-tra-l ia . It’s like Hawaii for me, to remember there are two ‘i’s in it and that Hawaiian just sort of looks wrong w ith an ‘a’ followed by two ‘i’s and then another ‘a’.
I’ll never forget when Fox News did a bit on the London Olympics opening ceremony. Austria came over with it’s flag followed by the Olympians. The announcer announced it as, ‘here’s Austria, once a British penal colony’.
Also someone commented that Georgia was a state and not a country when Georgia came out.
Interesting fact that no one ever seems to remember when people mention Australia was once a penal colony. It only became a penal colony when America got independence.

Oh man, my head hurts watching that.
I don’t know what the hell she was on about and people clapped, people clapped, they clapped that response. Shoot me now.
Didn’t someone say, America only learns where another country is, when it goes to war against/invade it. Lol.
I love you guys and gals, but as a country, everything scares the shit out of me.

Those girls learn canned responses to the questions, and are given talking points that are supposed to show that they are aware of current events. She just managed to get every one of them into a single incoherent answer. To be fair, she was pretty nervous.

Actually, the Outback and ‘the bush’ are generally two different places.
We live in the bush but we are quite some way from what would normally be considered ‘the Outback’.
As for Victoria Police (not Victorian Police!) ...their transition to black uniforms has not been kind.

Thanks.
I was told, the bush was the close outback and the outback was the far outback.
Ye’, sometimes in the news the ‘n’ is pronounced and sometimes isn’t. But it’s hard not to hear an ‘n’ even when they say Victoria police.

That wasn’t a canned response, that was a response that should of been canned.
Ye’, we’ve all rambled when put on the spot.
